
What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?
EAP’s are offered by employers to provide support and resources for their employees. The belief is that when employees are less stressed and better equipped to handle challenges, they can be more productive at work.
What services do EAP’s cover?
All of our EAP contracts cover short-term mental health individual therapy with our licensed psychologists. Most of our EAP contracts also cover group therapy and couples therapy for new parents. Some of our EAP contracts also cover medication management with our board-certified psychiatrist. Unfortunately, none of our EAP contracts currently cover testing/assessment services.
How much will services cost using my EAP plan?
Receiving therapy with us through your EAP is 100% FREE! Therapy sessions are paid for by your employer and are NOT billed to your health/medical insurance. There are no copays/co-insurance/deductibles when using your EAP benefits for therapy. Medication management services use your health/medical insurance.
How often can I come for therapy using my EAP plan?
EAP’s generally cover a set number of 45-minute therapy sessions. The number of free sessions they cover varies by employer. We’ve seen some plans cover 5 sessions and some plans cover 25. Some of our EAP contracts even provide continued in-network coverage through your medical/health insurance after the EAP sessions are used up which allows for longer-term care. Your provider will recommend a treatment plan and discuss the recommended frequency of services at your initial intake appointment. Benefits typically reset annually.
Can my child use my EAP benefits?
Yes! The employee is eligible and so is their spouse/domestic partner and dependent children! Most plans cover the set number of free sessions per person. For example, in a family of four, if an employer offers 16 free therapy sessions, the eligible employee is allowed 16 free therapy sessions, the employee’s spouse is allowed 16 free therapy sessions, and the employee’s two children are each offered 16 free therapy sessions! That’s 64 FREE therapy sessions per year for the family!
Does my employer offer FREE therapy using my EAP benefits?
Maybe! So many employees have EAP benefits that they don’t even know about. We are contracted with several EAP plans that offer 100% FREE mental health therapy to employees that work at over 500 organizations! Give us a call or send us a message to see if your employer will cover free therapy services at our office through your EAP. We’ll review your submission and contact you with information about any known EAP coverage.
I received a flyer referencing that I get “FREE THERAPY” through my EAP plan. What now?
If you received a flyer, that means that at the time of delivery, your employer was listed as an organization whose employees are eligible to receive free EAP therapy services with our office. Most organizations that offer EAP benefits require the employee to be working full-time for a set period of time (e.g., 90 days) to be eligible. Give us a call or send us a message to request that we verify your eligibility (we will need the eligible employee’s legal First and Last Name, Date of Birth, and Employer) and we can assist with scheduling an intake appointment.
